Garden Shrub to Part Trained Bonsai. How to make bonsai trees from garden plants.

Peoples gardens can contain a treasure trove of potential bonsai trees, if you know what to do with them! In this video, we'll be doing the initial work on preparing a garden shrub for bonsai cultivation. It is a useful how to guide for beginners who want to start collecting and making your own bonsai from scratch using garden plants and garden centre shrubs. The involves hard pruning, bonsai design, root pruning and potting up. The potential bonsai shown here is an Escallonia given to us when it was no longer wanted in a residential garden. It was dug up in the autumn and hard pruned at the same time. After this period of activity, the plant will be allowed to rest and recover until the following year.
