Izbırak, also known as Zaz, is one of the ancient Syriac villages of Midyat... The main reason for my second visit to this village was to reunite with Sister Hatune, who lives in Europe. I couldn't reach her; however, her sister, Nure Hanım, welcomed us with great warmth. Together, we toured her father's old house, picked roses in the rose garden, entered the dilapidated houses bearing the marks of time, and had a wonderful conversation about the village's past. Izbırak is a Syriac village that experienced significant emigration years ago. Today, many villagers who have settled in Europe return to their villages in the summer months; in their newly built houses, they continue to keep their ties to the past alive. With its stone houses, gardens, and quiet streets, this village is not just a settlement; it is also a beautiful example of remaining connected to one's roots.
