'Living Treasure of Darjeeling' Earns One of India's Highest Civilian Honours

Prof. Gambir Singh Yonzone, a distinguished botanist, educationist, environmentalist and institution builder from the Darjeeling hills, will be honoured with Padma Shri for his exceptional contribution to the welfare of the Darjeeling hills and the nation. Popularly known for his lifelong dedication, he was declared a "Living Treasure of Darjeeling" by INTACH. The first Indian Nepali (Gorkha) to earn an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Botany.
