Cervicogenic Headache Relief - Neck trigger point work, stretches & exercises for head pain

A cervicogenic headache or a neck headache is a headache can come from a combination of irritated spinal nerves, spinal misalignment and myofascial trigger points in your cervical spine. Muscles affected would be trigger points in the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, scalenes and suboccipital extensors. Weakness can often be found in you deep neck flexor with pain in your suboccipital area as well as the cranium or skull. This can be worsened by intervertebral disc pathology, poor posture, neck injuries, whiplash, stress, chronic spasm of the scalp, neck, or shoulder muscles. Also, certain neck movements, repetitive activities or keeping your head turned to one side for a long period of time can be implicated and even cause pain in your neck first. Sometimes the diagnosis is missed and other diagnoses of vascular pathologies of the neck, intracranial pathology, neck instability or occipital neuralgia is made.
