Farmington 1927: A Sublime Garden Suburb | Farmington Historical Society
One of America’s great contributions to city planning has been the “garden suburb” where streets are curved and frequently follow the landscape’s contours and houses are placed on ample lots with many trees, shrubs and gardens. UVA Professor Emeritus Richard Guy Wilson will investigate the origins of the garden suburb and some of its manifestations and how Farmington and E. S. Draper’s 1928 plan is a prime example. He will also examine the work of several notable architects: Stanhope Johnson, Marshall Wells and Milton Grigg.
