Colestasi intraepatica progressiva familiare (PFIC) nell'adulto

Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) belongs to a heterogeneous group of autosomal recessive disorders of childhood that impair bile formation and manifest as cholestasis of hepatocellular origin. The impact of the disease is not limited to affected patients, but also to their caregivers, negatively impacting the quality of life, relationships, and life prospects of caregivers. Furthermore, it has recently become increasingly clear that PFIC is not a disease limited to childhood, but also affects adults. To clarify, we spoke with Dr. Laura Cristoferi, Medical Director, Gastroenterology Department, IRCCS Fondazione San Gerardo dei Tintori, Researcher, Center for Autoimmune Liver Diseases, University of Milan-Bicocca.
