And dancing as a couple? 😉 The CLAVE, as its name suggests, is the key instrument in Salsa because it has a dual role: 1) it is one of the main percussion instruments in Salsa 2) it is the "rhythmic guide" around which a Salsa song is built The clave is such a rich and versatile instrument that it can have two "directions": 2-3 or 3-2 depending on how many "strokes" are made on two musical beats. Knowing how to recognize the Clave, perceiving it even when the instrument isn't present, knowing the tempos it plays, and recognizing its "direction" is crucial for every dancer.
