SWC Free Walk 158, Ingatestone to Battlesbridge.12/7/12.

Another longish walk of 15.4 miles through this quieter corner of Essex. Setting out from Ingatestone, the walker is soon passing by the hall there, crossing fields through the Wid valley, and then walking along the banks of the Wid for a short distance. There's some woodland walking before lunch on the village green at Stock, though a pub alternative is available. Thereafter, there's some more pleasant woodland walking before reaching familiar scenery from Free Walk 157. Past Hanningfield Reservoir and its nature reserve (not walked today but this stretch can be viewed on the video of walk 157), the walk enters new territory; mainly walking through fields, the Essex pylons come into view, and are followed down to Runwell. From here, the walker branches east, across more fields, into Battlesbridge. Another lovely jaunt through the Essex countryside, with this walk being less overgrown than Walk 157. (How could I possibly confuse a Yellow Hammer for a Reed Bunting? Must get my eyes tested!!).
