The president-elect also confirmed Elmer Cuba as head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), while Carlos Espá, former presidential candidate for the Sí Creo party, will lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Amid the announcements regarding Keiko Fujimori's new cabinet, political analyst Ángel Delgado, speaking on the program 24 Horas, assessed the appointment of Carlos Espá as foreign minister. The expert noted that the former presidential candidate publicly supported Fujimori during the second round of elections. However, Delgado cautioned that Carlos Espá would not have sufficient experience in diplomatic affairs to lead the Foreign Ministry, and therefore considered it necessary for his administration to be supported by officials specializing in foreign policy and international relations. “Espá’s appointment reflects the desire for a diverse cabinet. He has been aligned with the defense of democracy and, in the second round of voting, supported Keiko Fujimori. Clearly, he is not an academic and has no diplomatic ties. This is an aspect that needs to be addressed. His appointment is more political than technical,” he stated. On the other hand, Ángel Delgado endorsed the appointment of Luis Galarreta as President of the Council of Ministers and highlighted the experience accumulated by the Fuerza Popular leader throughout his political career. “He is a well-known figure in the political sphere. He served as President of Congress during a difficult period,” the expert noted, referring to Keiko Fujimori’s new chief of staff.
