Tricked into Buying Red Currant Canes!

Some plant purchases are a little on the risky side, for matching your climate, rainfall and specific location needs, however this one may well just be entirely impossible. That is trying to grow currants in the sub-tropics possibly without the necessary chill hours! We've tried before, but in that case the currants were in the beginning of our food forest in a location that really didn't provide much in the way of quality soil, protection from Australia's sometimes insane sun, and water or moisture in the warmer months. Having been caught out not checking to see whether this red currant is suitable, and totally missing the 'does not like the sub-tropics' warning clearly printed on the back, I'm going to give it a try anyway, this time in a pot so I can more carefully control what's going on.
