This Law Makes YOU a Criminal, Even if You Don't Own a Gun

Support the channel at: https://ryanmcbeth.substack.com New York just passed a law aimed at stopping people from using 3D printers to make guns and ghost gun parts. On paper, that sounds like a public safety measure. But once you look at how 3D printing and rapid prototyping actually work, the problem gets a lot more complicated. Actual text of the bill can be found here: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/... In this video, I break down why New York created the law, how it was enacted, what it actually requires, and why trying to make 3D printers detect “gun parts” may be a lot harder than lawmakers think. Because a gun part can look like a bracket. Or a tube. Or a drone component. Or something from a robotics lab. And if the technology gets this wrong, New York may end up chilling small businesses, maker spaces, universities, machine shops, and startups that rely on rapid prototyping. This is a real public safety issue. But it may also be a bad technology policy.
