Aaron Gold's Near-Death Accident at Tavarua, Fiji

Aaron’s near-death accident at Tavarua, Being prepared [to be humbled] in big waves. On a solid day at Cloudbreak, if anyone wasn’t going to need looking after — it’d be Aaron Gold. One of the gnarliest, underground big-wave surfers on the planet (and, World Record holder for biggest wave ever paddled at Jaws), Aaron’s the guy who normally has it all under control. Of course, that’s often how it always happens. Which is precisely why they train for the worse. The following is what it’s like when the worst happens to one of the world’s best. “When something like this happens to me…it puts it into perspective for all of us,” recalls Gold. “For myself, for my peers, all of us. You just never put it in perspective that it’s going to happen to you. Even with all my training for safety and to be safe, being able to implement it when the time comes is key.” Clip from Late Drop - The Big Wave Podcast.
