Daiwa Legalis Travel Rod Review | Perfect Hand Luggage Fishing Rod? Anglesey Field Test
This is my first time using a dedicated travel fishing rod, and in this video I test the Daiwa Legalis travel rod in real conditions around Anglesey targeting a mix of species including wrasse, dogfish, and smoothhounds. Normally when I travel fishing abroad, I either take a bulky rod tube and worry about damage in the hold, or I buy a cheap setup once I arrive. Neither option is ideal, especially with multiple trips planned this year. I reached out to Daiwa and explained my situation looking for a compact travel rod suitable for hand luggage — and they kindly sent out the Daiwa Legalis Travel Rod to test. What immediately stood out is just how compact it is. The rod is a 9–10ft travel setup that packs down into a 45cm hard case, with the rod sections themselves measuring just 40cm. That means it can easily fit in hand luggage without the need for a large rod tube. In this field test I put it through its paces in windy Anglesey conditions, starting with lures before switching to bait fishing. I wanted to see how it performed casting into the wind, how it handled under load, and whether a multi-piece travel rod would feel compromised in any way. From casting a 35g Westin sandy andy, to bait fishing crab and ragworm for species including dogfish and a hard-fighting smoothhound, the rod performed far better than expected. I also scaled down to light sabiki rigs where it proved surprisingly sensitive, picking up even the smallest bites from wrasse. By the end of the session, I also managed a surprise lobster catch, which rounded off a really varied test of the rod’s versatility. Overall, the Daiwa Legalis impressed me most on practicality — a proper fishing rod that performs like a full-length setup but packs down small enough for hand luggage travel. If you’re looking for a compact travel fishing rod for holidays or overseas fishing trips, this is a real-world test to help you decide if it’s worth it. #Daiwa #DaiwaLegalis #TravelRod #FishingReview #SeaFishing #AngleseyFishing #ShoreFishing #FishingUK #TravelFishing #FishingGear 🎵 Copyrighted music licensed from Lickd. https://lickd.co Wallflower by Adam Drake, https://t.lickd.co/l/ArZ1ndergw9
