Thinking Deeply in the Age of AI with Professor Christopher Summerfield

Can AI systems think? Can they deceive us? Whose interests do they serve and how should we use them? In this opening episode of Thinking Deeply, Professor Christopher Summerfield joins Robin Clyfan for a conversation exploring how to understand these strange new minds and think clearly about one of the most consequential developments of our age. Professor Summerfield is Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, a founding researcher at DeepMind, and Research Director at the UK AI Safety Institute. His work sits at the intersection of human cognition and artificial intelligence, making him uniquely positioned to help us navigate the questions AI raises. This conversation was recorded live at The Ned, London, as part of a new series examining how we make sense of the defining ideas of our time, presented in partnership between the Wadham Experience and The Ned. Thinking Deeply creates space for sustained inquiry into the questions that matter. No quick takes. No soundbites. Just thoughtful exploration with leading minds. Audience Q&A from this event will be posted separately. Follow for upcoming episodes and extended discussions.
