Yangzhou was a prosperous merchant city with a long history. It was also along the Grand Canal, a man-made canal that connected Beijing to Hangzhou, to facilitate trade between North and South China. We visited landscape gardens that were constructed by these merchants and also tried the famous Yangzhou fried rice.
