Guarabira - PB | Conhecendo a cidade de Guarabira no estado da Paraíba
In this video, I will show you a little about the city of Guarabira, in the state of Paraíba. Guarabira is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Paraíba. It is located 96 kilometers from the capital of Paraíba, João Pessoa, and 90 kilometers from Campina Grande, the most populous city in the interior of Paraíba. Its population, estimated by the IBGE in 2022, was 57,484 inhabitants. The Metropolitan Region of Guarabira was created by Complementary Law 101, of July 12, 2011. Our Lady of Light is the patron saint of the municipality. Her original image was brought from Portugal in 1755 by the Portuguese Antônio Rodrigues da Costa, a native of Beiriz (Greater Porto) and one of the municipality's founders. The toponym "Guarabira" is referenced by some authors as being of indigenous origin, meaning "the Cradle of the Blue Herons." Paraíba-born Tupinologist Vanderley de Brito, in his work "Missions in the Captaincy of Paraíba," argues for the meaning "blue bird" rather than "green," with the preference for blue in the anthroponym in question due primarily to customs and traditions. According to the author, the city's name was mistakenly attributed to the meaning "blue herons," concluding that the city's origin derives from the Tupi term Guiraobira, which would be the name of the chief of the tribe geographically located in the region and cataloged by cartographer George Marcgraf when he mapped the Franciscan missions in Paraíba during expeditions in the region in 1620. According to the missionary, the term could be translated as "blue or green bird": Guirá ("bird") and Obi ("blue or green"). The particle "yra" would designate the clan to which the chief belonged. Learn a little more about the history of Guarabira Around the year 1000, the region was invaded by Tupi people from the Amazon, who expelled the original inhabitants, speakers of Macro-Jê languages, into the interior of the continent. In the 16th century, when the first European explorers arrived in the region, it was inhabited by the Tupi tribe of the Potiguares. During the 16th century, under King Philip III, Duarte Gomes da Silveira had a notable influence on the ancient origins of Guarabira. It was during Spanish rule that he began cattle ranching and large estates in the fertile caatingas of Quandus, near Araçagi. He was born in Olinda, the son of Portuguese parents (Pedro Alves da Silveira and Maria Gomes Bezerra). On November 1, 1755, with a massive and devastating earthquake in Portugal, a man named José Rodrigues Gonçalves da Costa, overcome with panic, fled Póvoa de Varzim, in the province of Porto, his hometown. Arriving in Guarabira with his entire family, Mr. Costa Beiriz (as he became known) built a chapel and placed in it the image of Our Lady of Light that he had brought from Portugal. ⤵️ Leave your comment below telling us what you liked about this video! 🚀HELP THE CHANNEL🚀 **LIKE THE VIDEOS **LEAVE YOUR COMMENT **SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL ⤵️ Other videos on the channel TAMOIOS ROAD - DESCEND TO THE NORTH COAST, CARAGUATATUBA • RODOVIA DOS TAMOIOS - DESCIDA PARA LITORAL...
