High dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy treatment for gynecological cancers
Brachytherapy is internal radiation used to treat gynecological cancers, including cervical, uterine and vaginal. While under anesthesia, your care team will insert a thin medical device called an applicator. This allows radiation to be delivered directly to the tumor and minimizes radiation exposure to the healthy tissue, helping to kill the cancer cells. Patients have this treatment 3 to 5 times.
