The concerns raised against state police are not ones we can pretend don’t exist. Many of them are rooted in past experiences. However, the issue of accountability must be addressed through both legislative intervention and the vigilance of the Nigerian people. We must also understand the political economy of funding state police. In enacting this law, we must guarantee independent fiscal funding for state police.
