How to Cerakote (Step by Step)
In this video, we will show you how to cerakote dirtbike parts using Stone Grey and Gloss Black in their H Series. Specifically, we will be cerakoting a set of 2002 RM250 engine cases. Here are the technical details you need to know: Preparation: Before you start cerakoting, make sure you have cleaned the parts thoroughly with a degreaser and removed any old coatings. Then, use sandpaper or a blasting cabinet to prep the surface of the parts, creating a roughened surface to promote adhesion. (I used a vapor blasted, but a sandblaster works just as well) Mixing: The mixture ratio for Cerakote H Series is 4 parts Cerakote to 1 part hardener. For the Stone Grey and Gloss Black, I mixed it about 80% grey and 20% black to get the desired color blend. Mix thoroughly and strain the mixture to remove any impurities that could affect the finish. Spraying: Use a high-quality gravity-fed spray gun and adjust the air pressure to around 25-30 PSI for best results. Spray the mixture in a thin, even coat over the engine cases, holding the spray gun around 6-8 inches away from the surface. You are looking for a wet coat look, but with no drips or overspray. Curing: Allow the cerakote to dry for 15 minutes before placing the parts in an oven preheated to 300°F (121°C). Bake the parts for 2 hours to ensure complete curing of the coating. After the parts cool down, they are ready to be used or reassembled. By following these technical instructions, you can achieve a durable and professional-looking finish on your dirtbike parts using Cerakote H Series.
