CTA 'L' - 2600s and 3200s Running on the Pink Line - 7/3/23
Special thanks to our good friend JoshuaXposure for randomly waking up early on this particular day and catching this rare occasion! Follow his Instagram here: https://instagram.com/joshuaxposure?i... On Sunday, July 2nd, 2023, the Chicago-area experienced strong rainfall and flash floods. The Town of Cicero and the west side of the city had the worst effects of it, with many bus routes being rerouted due to almost every viaduct being flooded. The Pink Line was suspended between 54th/Cermak and Pulaski due to flooding between the Cicero and Kostner stations, as well as 54th Yard. The Blue Line experienced flooding on various portions of the Congress branch as well as the I-290 expressway itself. The Pink Line floods were so severe normal service didn't resume until around 8am the next day, July 3rd. Due to the 54th yard being inaccessible and a limited amount of 5000 series equipment on the line of road between Pulaski and the loop, rail management brought out an 8 car train from the Blue Line, split it into two, and ran the two quads in Pink Line service. This is pretty historical as this is the first time 3200-series equipment is used in revenue service on the Pink Line and 1st time since the 1990s they have been in service on the Douglas branch from back when they were revenue service testing. This is also the first time in a decade 2600s (besides the Holiday Train) have been used in revenue service on the Pink Line. Enjoy this short video at Central Park and 54th/Cermak showcasing this unique occasion!
