The 2021 KIA Sorento is the fourth generation of the Korean SUV. The first-generation Sorento, launched in 2002, was still body-on-frame, but the subsequent two generations abandoned its off-road heritage in favor of improved handling. The new KIA Sorento sits on a new platform designed to perform even better on the road, but to give the SUV's "utility" a more meaningful meaning, KIA has provided customers with a new all-wheel drive system. The new Sorento is a centimeter longer and wider than the third-generation model. The wheelbase has been extended by 3.5 cm. Depending on the trim level and drivetrain, the KIA Sorento can be equipped with wheels ranging from 17 to 20 inches in diameter. From the front, the flattened, sharply pointed hood is striking. The A-pillars have been moved back a few centimeters, visually widening the Sorento's stance. From the side, a silver tooth is visible at the C-pillar, seemingly intended to simply catch the eye. The vertical taillights are a nod to the larger Telluride. The new Sorento is available with a 2.2-liter diesel engine with a new-generation 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and with a hybrid drivetrain—a standard 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor for now.
