ISHITANI - Making a Cutting Gauge - magatama
This video shows how to make the magatama-shaped Cutting Gauge that Ishitani uses. "Cutting Gauge" is a tool used to draw parallel lines when marking. Unlike screw-type gauges, this magatama-shaped cutting gauge can be tightened and loosened with one hand, making it easy to make fine adjustments. Ishitani made this based on what his master's master used. The wood is called " 樫 / kashi ", which is sometimes translated into English as live oak, but it is different from the white oak used for furniture, and is an evergreen tree similar to beech. The main body is a reused base of an old Japanese wooden plane. The blade is also an old reused blade. It is useful to have several cutting gauges. For Membership, we are planning to give away PDF files of this plan, so if you are interested, please join us. furniture maker : Natsuki Ishitani / video & posting : Chie / music「Under the Overcast」by 松浦洋介 ---------------------- [ ISHITANI Channel Membership ] With membership, you can watch explanations of past furniture making videos, workshop tours, and videos on how to use woodworking tools.
