Negative Points?! BBE Entrance Exam Grading System Explained.

WU Vienna changed the BBE entrance exam — new format, new grading system. Misunderstanding the partial-credit rules could quietly cost you your spot. Nicolas walks through exactly how the new BBE entrance exam grading works, using real exam-like tasks from the BBE Insider mock exam platform. You'll see the new question format, how partial credit and negative points actually work (most applicants get this wrong), and the three scoring scenarios you can run into — so you walk in knowing how to maximise your points. In this video: What's new about the format, and why a grading misconception can cost you your spot How a task works: 5 statements, one maximum point value, scored per question How partial credit and negative points really work — and the myth that trips people up The 3 scoring scenarios (A, B, C) worked through real exam-like tasks Why it's so competitive this year (~3,900 applicants for ~240 spots) 3 takeaways to get the most points on exam day ————————— HOW THE NEW PARTIAL-CREDIT GRADING WORKS ————————— Each question is a block of 5 answer options ("statements") with its own maximum points (max). Every question is scored on its own and they're all independent of each other. Select all the correct statements and none of the wrong ones → you get the full max for that question. Answer it partially → you get partial credit. Negative points apply, but only within that one question, and your score per question can never drop below 0. So on each question you earn between 0 and max. Every question has between 1 and 5 correct answers. With max = the question's max points, c = number of correct options, and f = number of false options, there are 3 situations: A) ONE correct answer (c = 1) — all-or-nothing You get the full max only if you pick the single correct statement and no false ones. Select one or more false statements → 0 points. B) MORE THAN ONE correct answer (c = 2, 3 or 5) — partial credit with negatives +max/c for each correct statement you select. −max/f for each false statement you select. Leaving a statement unselected scores 0 (no penalty). The pluses and minuses are added against each other; your score is floored at 0 and capped at max. C) ALL correct BUT ONE (c = 4) — softened penalty You get the full max if you select all 4 correct statements and leave the single false one unselected. +max/c for each correct statement you select. −0.5 × max/f for each false statement you select. Again added up, floored at 0 and capped at max. (The half-weight penalty in C means a single wrong tick won't wipe out the whole question the way it can in B.) One thing to remember: during the exam you won't know how many answers are correct — c and f only matter for the scoring. And negative points never carry across questions; they stay inside the question. ————————— SEE YOUR SCORE — AND YOUR CHANCES ————————— Want to know where you'd actually stand?
