Near the Tenpozan Pier in the Chikko district of Osaka Port, a major base for the departure of the Japanese Army, the Osaka National Defense Women's Association was formed in March 1932 by housewives living in the area, primarily with the purpose of encouraging, caring for, and seeing off soldiers. In October of the same year, with the support of the Army and Navy, it developed into a nationwide organization and was renamed the Greater Japan National Defense Women's Association. Dressed in white aprons (kimono aprons) and sashes, they engaged in various activities on the home front. In 1942, it merged with the Patriotic Women's Association, formed in 1901, and the Greater Japan United Women's Association, formed in 1931, to become the Greater Japan Women's Association. We have colorized the original black-and-white footage, bringing back to life their dedicated, courageous, and beautiful figures, and the nostalgic scenes of early Showa-era Japan.
