Inside Vacheron Constantin's London Club | Meeting the Concours Collectors
I spent an evening inside Vacheron Constantin's London Club with the collectors whose watches made it through to the very first Concours d'Élégance Horlogère. I wanted to know what they submitted, why, and the stories hiding behind the serial numbers. Turns out the pieces are extraordinary, and the people are even better. To mark 270 years since 1755, Vacheron Constantin launched its first ever Concours d'Élégance Horlogère: a global celebration of the collectors who keep its history ticking. Owners of Vacheron pieces made between 1755 and 1999 submitted their watch, its story and its serial number across seven categories, from chiming mechanisms and chronographs to astronomical complications, Chronomètre Royal, Métiers d'Art and design. A jury co-chaired by Aurel Bacs and Christian Selmoni judged them on nine criteria including authenticity, rarity, provenance and, my favourite, emotional dimension. Thirty-five watches were selected to travel to Geneva for a public exhibition and an awards ceremony this November. In this video, I sit down with the London collectors who made that cut, and we get into the watches, the hunt, and why these particular pieces mean so much.
