Residents of Walsall in England’s West Midlands say life in Britain’s worst town for quality of life feels like a real life episode of Shameless, with some claiming homeless people earn more by begging outside Wetherspoons. The Black Country town was ranked the most deprived place in the UK in the Demos PwC Good Growth for Cities Index 2025, with locals blaming unemployment, crime and long term underinvestment.
