Accept Naga identity or the movement will continue, says NSCN-IM chief

In an exclusive interaction with EastMojo, the chief of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) faction (NSCN-IM), Thuingaleng Muivah, said that the Naga movement will continue “come what may” if the Government of India fails to recognise the Naga identity. The 91-year-old leader, who is currently staying at the Gethsemane Prayer Center in Somdal, his hometown in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, reiterated that the Naga stand has remained unchanged for decades. Recalling the events surrounding the signing of the Naga Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015, Muivah said he had made his position clear to the Indian representatives before agreeing to sign the accord. “Our history with the Indian government is clear,” Muivah said. “We told them repeatedly, but they started giving ultimatums and warnings to use force. We were forced to tell them that come what may, we will stand our ground.” He added, “Nagas are Nagas and Indians are Indians. If you do not understand and appreciate us, there is no point for us to come to you.
