Supine Spinal Immobilization: Protecting the Spine in Trauma
When trauma patients are lying on their back and a spinal injury is suspected, EMTs must use supine spinal immobilization to prevent further damage. In this video, we demonstrate the step-by-step process of manually stabilizing the head, applying a cervical collar, and securing the patient to a long backboard. You’ll learn how EMTs maintain spinal alignment, communicate as a team, and safely prepare the patient for transport. This critical skill ensures the spine is protected from the moment care begins.
