What is Bond Energy || Factors Affecting Bond Energy || Class 11 | Chapter 03 | Chemical Bonding
Hello dear students. today we'll study what is bond energy, bond energy is defined as, the amount of energy released when one mole of a bond is formed between the two bonding atoms is called bond energy. since bond formation brings stability so energy should decrease and hence it is lost in the form of bond energy. bond energy can also be defined as, the amount of energy required to break one mole of a bond between the two bonding atoms is called bond energy.if we have to break a bond we will have to provide the same amount of energy that was release during bond formation. various factors affect the bond energy, no.1is electronegativity difference between the two bonding atoms. no.2 atomic size and no.3 bond length. these three factors affect the bond energy and bond energy is directly proportional to electronegativity difference between the two bonding atoms, bond energy is generally inversely proportional to atomic size. bond energy is also inversely proportional to bond length. longer bonds are weaker bonds and shorter bonds are stronger bonds.for example, carbon carbon single bond is weaker than carbon carbon double bond which in turn is weaker than carbon carbon triple bond. other examples include H2 molecule,Cl2 molecules and HCl molecule etc. If you have any question you can ask it in comments.
