The new academic year has barely kicked off and the embattled National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is already making headlines. Allegations of tender fraud, maladministration and corruption are threatening the future of millions of students who depend on government funding. The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) has revealed that it has audio recordings of two meetings between the NSFAS board chairperson, Ernest Khosa and a representative of the scheme's service provider. The recordings allegedly reveal that service providers paid Khosa and Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande millions of rand in kickbacks for tenders.
