Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten und Wissenschaftssozialisation unter Bedingungen von KI-Sprachtools
Speakers: Dr. Isabella Buck (RheinMain University of Applied Sciences) & Dr. Anika Limburg (RheinMain University of Applied Sciences) AI language tools will fundamentally change academic work. They can not only inspire or simplify the writing process, but above all, improve the content quality of texts. Against this backdrop, the first questions that arise are (1) why students should still write and develop writing skills at all, and what this means for teaching and student support, and (2) how AI-supported writing processes work from a writing studies perspective, and how the acquisition of such writing skills can be taught didactically. More broadly, developments in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) also touch upon the question (3) of academic socialization. How can students be shown what distinguishes science and what its particular value is when the collection of information and the writing of texts appear to be processes that can, in principle, be automated? In our presentation, followed by a discussion, we will explore these three questions. An article by Dr. Isabella Buck and Dr. Anika Limburg Anika Limburg's article on AI language tools has been published in the journal "Hochschullehre" (Higher Education): https://www.wbv.de/shop/Hochschulbild... 00:00:00 - Intro 00:02:17 - Start of the presentation 00:02:58 - Agenda 00:05:49 - Theses on the future of academic writing 00:09:20 - "Back to the present" 00:12:52 - When and where does writing take place in academia? 00:15:17 - Academic Socialization in Writing 00:20:51 - Academic Socialization: AI Tools - Avoiding them for Learning, Using them to Reduce Workload and for Better Results 00:23:52 - Professional Practice with AI Tools 00:24:16 - Research 00:27:38 - Importance of Research Tools for Academic Socialization 00:31:09 - Importance of Research Tools for Teaching 00:33:42 - Tools for Engaging with Academic Discourse 00:35:30 - Importance of Semantic Tools for Academic Socialization 00:41:25 - Importance of Semantic Tools for Teaching 00:43:31 - Tools for Idea Generation 00:47:48 - Importance of Brainstorming Tools for Academic Socialization 00:49:21 - Importance of Brainstorming Tools for the Teaching 00:51:59 - Conclusion 01:01:12 - Implications of Language Processing Tools for Examination Law 01:02:57 - Literature Review 01:03:22 - Introduction of Discussion Questions 01:06:45 - Start of Discussion 01:07:51 - Cost Barriers to Tool Use 01:11:20 - Is there a risk that truth and the pursuit of truth will fade as the goal of academic writing? 01:14:20 - How do we deal with the distortion of priorities caused by AI? 01:15:48 - Should Discursivity be a separate focus? 01:17:20 - New Relevance of Teaching the Philosophy of Science 01:18:21 - What functions does writing have on the one hand, and how do we deal with discourse on the other? 01:19:44 - What impact do AI tools have on students' motivation to work? 01:22:46 - AI-free zones are utopian and therefore require even greater assessment skills. 01:26:25 - Conclusion Tool list: Research ————— elicit.org, openknowledgemaps.org, researchrabbit.ai Semantics / Discussion —————————————— chatpdf.com, Scispace (accessible at typeset.io until the end of 2023) Ideation —————— elicit.org, chatGPT, bing Link to the documentation on Concept Board: https://dghd.link/dghd-ki-board
