The LEGO Batman Movie (2017) follows Bruce Wayne / Batman, voiced by Will Arnett, as he protects Gotham City from the Joker and the rest of his villains while refusing to admit that he needs anyone in his life. After Batman hurts the Joker by denying that their rivalry means anything to him, Joker begins plotting a much bigger revenge plan against Gotham. Directed by Chris McKay, with music by Lorne Balfe, the film turns Batman’s loner persona into the center of the story. Bruce accidentally adopts Dick Grayson / Robin, voiced by Michael Cera, while also dealing with Barbara Gordon, voiced by Rosario Dawson, becoming Gotham’s new police commissioner and trying to move the city beyond depending on Batman alone. As Joker, voiced by Zach Galifianakis, sets a plan in motion involving the Phantom Zone, Batman is forced to confront his biggest fear: becoming part of a family again. With help from Robin, Barbara as Batgirl, and Alfred, voiced by Ralph Fiennes, Batman has to learn how to trust other people, work as a team, and accept that being a hero doesn’t mean shutting everyone out. Packed with DC references, LEGO madness, superhero parody, and genuine emotional payoff, The LEGO Batman Movie becomes both a hilarious Batman comedy and a surprisingly strong story about family, grief, teamwork, and letting people in.
