By The Oleander Grove - Tranquil Beauty Of Iztuzu Lagoon

The little lake at Iztuzu beach is a true gem. While the beach is often full of hustle and bustle, the lake offers calm in a beautiful setting. During the summer months, the oleander blossom adds another colourful dimension to this place. Alongside the scenic beauty, this lake also has historical significance. During the Kaunos era, this lake was used to collect sea salt after ocean water evaporated in the extreme heat. I actually experienced that once while walking on the dried lake bed. It was an eerie experience as I felt my feet sink into what looked like solid ground. A trip to Iztuzu beach is always a joyful experience, but this time around (June 26), something was amiss. The winter storms had taken down a couple of my favourite tree ‘super models’.
