Dr. Anthony Lim joins Chef AJ for a deeper conversation following the recent expert panel “Honesty at the Edges of Lifestyle Medicine” put on by Lifestyle Telemedicine. Lifestyle medicine offers powerful tools for preventing and reversing chronic disease—but real life is messy. Progress isn’t always linear. People struggle with adherence. Shame can creep in. And even highly motivated individuals can feel discouraged when they fall short of their goals. In this conversation, Chef AJ and Dr. Lim explore what happens at the edges of lifestyle medicine—the places where ideal recommendations meet real human lives. Drawing from his experience working with patients seeking transformation in their health and their lives, Dr. Lim shares a hopeful message: meaningful change is possible—but it rarely happens in a straight line. This conversation is for anyone who has ever struggled to stay consistent with healthy habits—and wants to learn how to move forward with clarity, resilience, and grace. Dr. Anthony Lim is a board-certified family medicine and lifestyle medicine physician who has practiced for over 15 years in Northern California and has served patients from around the world through his work in lifestyle and preventive medicine. He has worked at True North Health Center, Kaiser Permanente, and served as the Medical Director of the McDougall Program for over 10 years. Known for his compassionate care and whole-person approach, Dr. Lim integrates medical expertise with a deep passion for helping individuals experience lasting transformation in body, mind, and spirit. Training Institutions Dr. Lim earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program. He received his BA in Human Biology from Stanford University and a law degree from Harvard Law School prior to beginning medical school. He is licensed to practice law in California. Clinical Expertise Dr. Lim specializes in lifestyle-based approaches to chronic disease prevention and reversal, including weight management, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and autoimmune conditions. His areas of focus also include behavioral change, spiritual formation, nutritional counseling, emotional eating, and mental and emotional well-being. He is passionate about empowering patients to reclaim their health through evidence-based, lifestyle-centered care rooted in compassion and simplicity. My Philosophy I believe that true healing begins when we align body, mind, and spirit — caring for the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. My approach centers on guiding patients to rediscover the inherent capacity within themselves to live vibrant, purpose-filled lives through the daily practice of simple, healthy habits — nurturing not only the body, but also the mind and the heart through healthy thinking and emotional balance. At the heart of my approach is a deep faith in Jesus Christ, whom I accepted as my Lord and Savior at age 26 during one of the lowest points in my life while a second-year student at Harvard Law School. His unconditional love and limitless grace have transformed my life in unimaginable ways and shape everything I think, feel, and do. I believe that the love He modeled — compassionate, nonjudgmental, and redemptive — offers a blueprint for healing that reaches far beyond physical health. In my experience, many unhealthy habits arise not merely from a lack of knowledge or discipline but from an inner restlessness of the soul. True transformation occurs not only by changing behaviors but by addressing the deeper disquiet that drives them. My role is to walk alongside each patient — regardless of background or belief — with the same spirit of grace and compassion, helping them uncover the sources of imbalance in body, mind, and spirit and rediscover the peace and wholeness that come from living in alignment with love and truth. Interests Playing out in nature (hiking, trail running, backpacking), learning guitar, volunteering at a faith-based homeless/addiction long-term recovery program, spending quality time with his wife and two kids who bring him endless joy, and growing daily in his Christian faith.
