Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy America250 Train on Norfolk Southern’s Southern Tier Line!

On Thursday 6/11/2026 was a day that few would have ever thought would be a realistic possibility- Union Pacific’s Big Boy 4014 4-8-8-4, the largest locomotive ever built in the world, today 4014 lead Union Pacific’s America250 train Across Norfolk Southern’s Southern Tier Line between Buffalo, NY and Sayre, PA. This special excursion is a joint collaboration between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern to bring 4014 to Philadelphia, Pa for July 4th in honor of Philadelphia being the location of where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, 250 years ago that established the United States of America into existence and the beginning of its long and fruitful history. It was an absolute honor and an amazing experience to witness the Big Boy on its historic trip to the East Coast and to watch as railfans and locals celebrated 4014’s presence across the line was a really cool experience to be a part of. Watch along as we chase Big Boy along the line, not nearly as many locations were captured as planned due to the crowds and chaos along the roads but it was extremely special nonetheless.
