The chain snapped at 7:42 in the morning. Not broke. Snapped. A 7/8-inch Grade 70 tow chain rated to 26,400 pounds of working load let go like a rifle shot — one end went through the rear window of my pickup sixty yards away. My name is Wade Holcomb. And my Challenger MT975E — 1,050 horsepower, 67,000 pounds, Caterpillar C18 diesel — was buried to its belly in black Southeast Missouri bottomland mud with eleven hours of daylight left and no clean way out.
