(4K) From VLAARDINGEN SURFPLAS to MAASSLUIS and back to SCHIEDAM (The Netherlands)

Geen muziek en geen blog of vlog maar alleen de omgevingsgeluiden. 20 Maart '25 Vandaag de 1e lente dag met toepasselijk weer fietsen we naar het stadje Maassluis met z'n mooie oude centrum. We beginnen onze fietsrit op de fietsers-overgang die over de A20 gaat waar ook de nieuwe A24 oprit begint en leid naar de nieuwe BLANKENBURG tunnel richting Rozenburg en Botlek.(helaas alleen voor auto's en met tol). We komen langs de Vlaardingse Surfplas en fietsen door de polder naar de Maassluisedijk/Vlaardingsedijk en komen dan in Maassluis terecht. We zijn daar nog niet eerder wezen fietsen en het plan is om daar in de toekomst nog een uitgebreidere verkenning te maken. ******* Geschiedenis: (Wikipedia) Maassluis is rond 1340 ontstaan als nederzetting bij een sluis in een zeewering. Die werd tussen de Noordzee en Rotterdam aangelegd om overstromingen te voorkomen. De nederzetting, die bestuurlijk onder Maesland viel, werd Maeslandsluys genoemd. De nederzetting werd in 1489 geplunderd. In de zestiende eeuw liet Marnix van St. Aldegonde een schans aanleggen. Nog voor de voltooiing werd de schans in 1573 veroverd door de Spanjaarden. Van Aldegonde werd gevangengenomen. Een jaar later werd Maeslandsluys door muitende Spaanse troepen geplunderd. Op 16 mei 1614 werd Maeslandsluys zelfstandigheid verleend door de Staten van Holland. De nederzetting ging verder als Maassluis. De afscheiding had te maken met de onvrede in Maassluis over de houding van het bestuur dat in Maasland was gevestigd. Die onvrede bestond onder andere omtrent de hoge kosten die men moest betalen en het weinige dat daarvoor terugkwam. De schans werd in 1624 afgebroken, om plaats te maken voor de Groote Kerk. Met de bouw daarvan werd begonnen in 1629. Die bouw lag vijf jaar stil, doordat kapers uit Duinkerke veel Maassluizer vissersschepen veroverden en de bemanning overboord gooiden. In 1639 werd de Groote Kerk voltooid. Op 4 december 1732 werd het beroemde Garrelsorgel in gebruik genomen. Dit orgel, in de periode 1730-1732 gebouwd door Rudolf Garrels, en was een geschenk van de Maassluise reder Govert van Wijn. Het verzoek van Maassluis om zich stad te mogen noemen dateert van december 1813. Het Koninklijk Besluit van verlening is gedagtekend op 18 februari 1814.[ ******* No music and no blog or vlog but only the ambient sounds. We start our bike ride at the cyclist crossing that goes over the A20 where the new A24 entrance also starts and leads to the new BLANKENBURG tunnel towards Rozenburg and Botlek. We have not been cycling there before and the plan is to make a more extensive exploration there in the future. ******* History: (Wikipedia) Maassluis was founded around 1340 as a settlement at a lock in a sea wall. It was built between the North Sea and Rotterdam to prevent flooding. The settlement, which was administratively part of Maesland, was called Maeslandsluys. The settlement was plundered in 1489. In the sixteenth century, Marnix van St. Aldegonde had a fort built. Even before it was completed, the fort was conquered by the Spanish in 1573. Van Aldegonde was taken prisoner. A year later, Maeslandsluys was plundered by mutinous Spanish troops. On 16 May 1614, Maeslandsluys was granted independence by the States of Holland. The settlement continued as Maassluis. The separation was due to the dissatisfaction in Maassluis about the attitude of the government that was established in Maasland. This dissatisfaction consisted, among other things, of the high costs that had to be paid and the little that came in return.[ The fort was demolished in 1624 to make way for the Groote Kerk. Construction began in 1629. Construction was halted for five years because privateers from Dunkirk captured many Maassluis fishing vessels and threw the crews overboard. The Groote Kerk was completed in 1639. On 4 December 1732, the famous Garrels organ was put into use.
