FILM PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS - DARKROOM PRINTING
FILM PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINERS - DARKROOM PRINTING (This video is intended for those who are thinking of, or already have set up a darkroom but are still not sure of the basics). I have had this question many times so I thought I would go in the darkroom and show in the simplest of ways of how to make a wet print in the darkroom. I know of a few people that are shooting film, developing film and scanning their negatives but have not yet got to making a wet print. The main reason is space, equipment and the thought of it. It's real easy to do and it's also easy to set up (All you need is a Dark Room at home. I used to use my bathroom with black out paper over the window!) I try to show in the video the simplest way I know covering Basic Gear Handling Negatives Mixing Chemicals Making a Contact Sheet/Print* Test Strips Making final print Washing. *Contact Sheet/Print I must admit I don't do this that often but it really is a good practise to do. Not only does it give you a good reference for your negatives when they are stored but, if done correctly, can show you the real exposure value of your photographs. In this example my photographs looked under exposed. Or under developed! Or both! There are many other videos out there on making contact sheets. From my understanding the clear edge of your negative should not be brighter than the blackest part of the paper. This is why you do a test strip on a contact print. And it made sense when I printed my final print. At F11 it only took 5 seconds to expose! I hope this video helps and inspires you with making your first darkroom print, but do look at other videos. There is lots of ways to do this, mine is just one example. Cheers!
