POV: You Build a Fake $1.8 Billion Dollar AI Company (MEDVi)

On April second, twenty twenty-six, the New York Times published an article about a man who said he had used artificial intelligence to build a one-point-eight-billion-dollar company in two years, with one employee, his brother. The article was mostly true. The parts that weren't would, six days later, force the New York Times to issue an editor's note. This is the story of Matthew Gallagher, the founder who built MEDVi from his Los Angeles kitchen with a stack of AI tools and a roster of fake doctors, persuaded the New York Times he was a one-man unicorn, and watched the paper of record append an editor's note to its profile six days after it ran. The Times called it shortcuts. The FDA called it misbranding. The lawsuits called it spam, deception, and snake oil. ──────────────────────── ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 - The Pitch 00:42 - Origin 03:31 - The Empire 06:13 - The Rise 08:28 - The Investigation 11:49 - The Fake Doctors 15:44 - The Pressure 22:20 - The Editor's Note 24:12 - Reflection ──────────────────────── 📚 DIG DEEPER 📖 READ: → The original New York Times profile that started it all — by Erin Griffith The New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/02/te... → Futurism original investigation at Futurism - by Maggie Harrison Dupré Futurism: https://futurism.com/medvi-ai-ozempic → Futurism's follow-up after the NYT profile - by Maggie Harrison Dupré Futurism: https://futurism.com/artificial-intel... → Futurism's coverage of the NYT's editor's note — by Maggie Harrison Dupré Futurism: https://futurism.com/artificial-intel... → FDA Warning Letter to MEDVi, LLC — issued February 2026 FDA: https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compl... 🎬 WATCH: → "billion dollar ai company was built on lies" — voidzilla (Coffeezilla's commentary channel) YouTube:    • billion dollar ai company was built on lies   ──────────────────────── DISCLAIMER: This content is for entertainment and education.
