His new life is much quieter than before, but everything changes when he is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help investigate a powerful stolen formula and track down a dangerous new villain. Gru is partnered with Lucy Wilde, voiced by Kristen Wiig, an energetic AVL agent whose confidence and unpredictability completely shake up his world. As the two investigate a shopping mall full of possible suspects, Gru begins to suspect that a restaurant owner named Eduardo Perez may actually be the legendary villain El Macho, voiced by Benjamin Bratt. Directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, with music by Heitor Pereira and songs by Pharrell Williams, the movie expands Gru’s world while keeping the family story at the center. As Gru tries to protect his daughters, deal with Margo growing up, and understand his feelings for Lucy, the Minions become part of an even bigger mystery when they start disappearing and turning into purple, chaotic, evil versions of themselves. As the story builds, Despicable Me 2 becomes a mix of spy comedy, family adventure, romance, and classic Minion chaos. Gru has to stop El Macho’s plan, save the Minions, protect his family, and figure out whether his life after villainy has room for something new.
