Finding A Voice In Adversity: How I Went From Blind Woman To Athlete | Jess Marion | TEDxUSFSP

Growing up visually impaired, Jess Marion, faced unique challenges that shaped her relationship with her vision. in 2016 she lost most of her remaining vision and faced an uncertain future. Through her own background as a master coach and the setting of one goal she went from blind woman to athlete, transforming her life and leading her to advocate for the visually impaired community. Jess Marion is a legally blind athlete, trainer, coach, and author. She embraces the unique challenges her low vision creates and uses those challenges as opportunities to grow. This attitude has led her to become an avid CrossFitter and Spartan Race participant. In addition to her athletic accomplishments Jess holds a Masters degree and has completed doctoral course work in Cultural Anthropology. She was an adjunct professor for 7 years before leaving academia to pursue a career as a coach and hypnotist. Currently Jess serves an international clientele and trains social workers, therapists, and other professionals in communication skills, hypnosis, and mastering the “inner game”. She has also written and published 10 books in her field. In her free time, Jess is an advocate for the visually impaired community and a frequent contributor on TheMighty.com. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
