Tent Camping, Ghost Towns & Van Problems

The camper van is still out of commission, but that wasn't going to stop us from getting outside! In this video, we head to Burning Bear Campground near Grant Colorado for a weekend of tent camping at nearly 10,000 feet elevation. The forecast called for a much colder night, but temperatures only dropped to around 35 degrees, making for a comfortable mountain camping experience. I also share the latest update on our 2026 Granite Ridge / Mercedes Sprinter van breakdown. Unfortunately, we're still getting nowhere with Camping World and Jayco, and Mercedes has informed us that the van may qualify for a buyback. The downside is that the review process could take several weeks before we get an answer. Despite the ongoing van frustrations, we made the best of the weekend. We fired up the Blackstone for some campsite cooking, explored the incredibly crowded Guanella Pass, and then tackled a rough 4WD road to visit the historic ghost town of Geneva Township. The road was challenging, but the Nissan Frontier handled it like a champ. Back at camp, we enjoyed a bike ride along beautiful Geneva Creek, taking in the scenery around Burning Bear Campground before settling in for the evening. Unfortunately, the trip ended sooner than expected when a medical issue forced us to pack up and head home. Thankfully, everyone is okay, but it wasn't something we wanted to deal with while tent camping high in the mountains.
