DATSUN OR RAT ROD? Karl's Custom 1978 'Ratsun' 620!

In Episode 169 of Cars, Shops & Collections, we visit Karl to check out not one, but two of his prized builds! A 1978 Datsun 620 and a 1979 long bed Datsun 620. Karl has been working on Datsuns since he was 16, teaching himself everything he knows about these classic mini trucks. Inspired by Overhaulin’ legend Chip Foose, Karl not only builds these rides by hand, he sketches them too. That artistry carries over into the interior, where Karl’s woodworking skills are on full display. Karl’s 1978 620 is a raw and personal build… No rules, just pure creativity. Think rat rod meets Datsun… And Karl added custom touches and tributes to his hero, Peter Brock. From the BRE badging to the subtle nods throughout the truck. Karl is a member of the Las Vegas 702 Ratsun group, and in this episode, a few of his car buddies roll up to join the fun, including one with a stunning 1968 Camaro. Along the way, Karl drops knowledge on everything from 620 quirks to Datsun design history. These trucks were originally launched by Nissan to compete in the compact pickup market, with the 620 line (produced from 1972 to 1979) becoming a fan favorite for its bulletproof reliability, sleek lines, and mod-friendly platform.
