Unplanned Call-Out Mid-Filming: Sick Deer in a Protected Area During filming for our new series "With Professionals to Your Dream Hunting Ground," the reality of hunting caught up with us: A call from a local resident led us to a critically ill deer in a garden. We had already been notified the previous day, but at that time it was still too mobile to be euthanized. The challenge: The deer was sick, but too mobile to be shot. The garden was also located in a protected area. Even with special permission from the police, a shot was out of the question due to the surrounding buildings. Since the city hunter was unavailable, we decided, in close consultation with the police, to slowly guide the deer to the adjacent ZJS (Central Hunting Association) training area and euthanize it safely with a backstop. The video shows the professional procedure: assessing the situation, coordinating with all involved parties, involving the residents, and finally, euthanizing the animal with as little suffering and stress as possible. Not a pleasant task, but part of the hunters' social responsibility. Animal welfare sometimes means making quick and responsible decisions. How would you have handled the situation?
