large format photography: bridges of the Sacramento River Delta

In this video, I head out into the Sacramento River Delta with my 4x5 large format film camera to photograph two bridges and an old riverside terminal along the water. This is part photo outing, part large format practice session, and part experiment in slowing down enough to really think through each exposure. I shoot six 4x5 photos while practicing manual exposure with a handheld spot meter, using the meter readings to place shadows, protect highlights, and make more intentional exposure decisions on film. Along the way, I explore the industrial and maritime character of the Delta: steel bridges, river infrastructure, weathered buildings, working waterfront details, and the quiet beauty of old California river towns. This is not a polished tutorial so much as a real-world field session: learning the spot meter, working through exposure decisions, composing on the ground glass, and trying to make thoughtful architectural and industrial landscape photographs with a large format camera.
