Torras 360 Magnetic Stand iPhone 17 Review - A Clever Idea With Serious Problems
This Torras case is an update to their original stand case, and the big selling point is the new 360-degree rotating stand. On paper, that sounds fantastic. In practice, once I ran it through my drop tests and daily-use checks, the case started to fall apart pretty quickly. TORRAS 360 Magnetic Stand for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case, [Fit for MagSafe] [4X Military-Grade Protection] Slim Case for iPhone 17 Pro Max Ostand O3 Fitness Series Review -newer version of the Torras Stand Case -the first thing you probably notice is the stand -instead of the stand popping out in one direction -You Get To Choose Now! -the entire stand rotates which I really like -makes using MagSafe accessories almost bearable with the stand -you can control what direction it pops out -it also clicks and could almost be used like a fidget spinner -almost -case has a soft rubber finish everywhere which is the opposite of the last few cases I've reviewed. -edge has a dot pattern, similar to the Q3 Air STand case but instead of just the edge...it's EVERYWHERE -the bottom of the case doesn't have any feet so this corner will scuff over time -nothing really interesting on the inside of the case -the magsafe area is slightly raised and that's what the iPhone rests on so there is a tiny gap between the iPhone's back and the inside of the case -the last thing of note is the inside case edge -torras has it rimmed all the way around -never seen this before -grip on this case isn't bad -there's enough there -soft rubber coating, the dots on the edge -but it's not enough from my perspective -I live in a dry climate so this case feels slicker than if I use it after sweating a bit -I hope that makes sense -i will note that there is a seam between the edge and back of the case that gives my fingers a ~small finger hold -going to add 82g to your iPhone -that's hefty -blame the stand -bulk wise, it's a hair slimmer than the average case -slim and heavy, pretty sure that's a bad combination for an iPhone case -so for corner drops, my iPhone registered 10.5G's, that's average -the rotation right after the drop? 24% higher than average -BUT the settling rate was better by about 5% -The total force going into the iPhone was basically average -pretty much an average amount of protection for a case that weighs more than it should -not sure the ridges alone the edge of the case did anything -for face drops -fails -what did you expect for a case with a loose top? -for the camera lump -this Torras case has an assymetrical lip -the bottom part is the thinnest which is odd since that's where the impact occurs -does that matter? -initial impact was 14% higher -settling rate 20% below average -overall force was borderline better than average at 6% -the only reason the force was below average was because the total drop time was a split second shorter -case corner is 2.1mm thick -technically this case has air pockets becuase of the ridges that run along the edge of the case -back is a whopping 3.1mm -has to because of the stand -case corners pop off really easily, taking about 6N to remove -case rigidity is about 9% above average -that's a bad combo right? -rigid back, loose corners -for magsafe, takes 7.5N to Pull, 8.6 to Push -those aren't great number because it's 18% below average -case has flow through buttons which work -they're kinda boring but the simple finish is easy to find against the dotted case edge -camera control button is covered and easy to find -case edges are quite noticeable -port cutout is large enough for bigly cable head -and the edges are chamferred so pinky propping it up is ok
