Computer History IBM System 360 READ ONLY STORAGE 1965 Technical Lecture Mainframe Memory Card ROM

Computer History: For review and discussion today, we examine an original Confidential IBM very technical lecture circa 1964 “IBM System/360 Read Only Storage.” (IBM Poughkeepsie) The speaker, T.F. Slagsvol, an electrical engineer, describes ADVANTAGES and FUNCTIONS of Read Only Storage used in System/360 mainframe. Read Only Storage also called Read Only Memory (ROM), for Micro-instructions and micro-programming applications. It describes how the three types of read only storage function in System/360, and the advantages of read only storage over conventional circuitry and its role System/360 downward compatibility. Views of card capacitor, transformer, and balanced capacitor read only storage are included with pictures of the System/360 computer systems in which they furnish the control function. Runs about 30 mins, with IMAGE GALLERY at end. Part of IBM’s “Topic of the Week” series. © IBM circa 1964.
