Dash Cam Drive through Dothan, Alabama

TRANSCRIPT Dothan, Alabama, the self-proclaimed Peanut Capitol of the World, is located in the extreme southeast corner of Alabama, near both the Georgia and Florida state-line. With a population of just over 71,000 people, Dothan is the eighth largest city in the state and the center of Alabama’s Wiregrass Region. I’m Michael Miller and it’s time for a dash cam drive through Dothan Alabama on Dash Cam Travels! Our journey starts just north of Dothan on US-431 as we cross into Houston County and the small town of Kinsey. We cross the Ross Clark Circle, a beltway bypass of Dothan and continue as Business US 431, otherwise known as Reeves Street. We cross a bridge over the CSX Railway and turn left onto Oates Street. It’s here that Business US 231 joins us as we continue south towards Downtown. While on Oates Street, we catch a quick view of the historic Water Works Standpipe and pass the Houston County Courthouse. We get a better view of the courthouse a little later in the video. We turn left onto Main Street, Business US 84 and Alabama Route 52 and enter the Main Street Commercial Historic District. We turn left onto St. Andrews Street, passing the Historic Dothan Opera House and the Dothan Civic Center. We again turn left, this time onto Adams Street, passing the tallest building in Dothan, the Charles Woods Building which was originally built in 1928 as the Houston Hotel. We cross Oates Street, now finding ourselves in a residential area, turning left onto Lena Street and left again back onto Main Street. It is here that we catch a great view of the aforementioned Houston County Courthouse. At the courthouse, we turn right onto Oates Street and resume our southbound drive. We pass the city high school, known as the Dothan Preparatory School and approach Ross Clark Circle. It’s here that both US-431 and Business US-431 end, but US-231 continues southbound towards Florida. Our journey ends after we pass the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds, home of the National Peanut Festival which is held November of each year and is known for the large goober located next to the sign at the main entrance.
