Although the posters in our bedrooms tell us about the Testarossa, so beloved by Italian cinema in the 1980s, in Maranello they've been talking about the Testarossa since the 1950s, a "Technical" solution so impactful and distinctive that, as we learn here, it continues to lend its name to entire cars. An important, challenging name, a risky choice for some to recall it after more than 40 years... but when it's the pinnacle of the Prancing Horse's range that does it, it's all good... Form follows function, a famous phrase we know all too well by now, but there's real charisma here! After all, drawing inspiration from legendary cars like the 512 M and the FXX-K makes everything even more moving. The taut lines are sharp and balanced, with a front end that reminds me of the 12Cylinder, but only in terms of color, while the twin-tail rear takes me back to the Sports Prototypes of the 1970s. The active spoiler goes from low drag to full downforce in less than a second, now generating, along with the rest of the aerodynamics, 415 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, 25 kg more than the SF90. Not only downforce, but also improved cooling (15% to be precise), and a commendable contribution is also made by those splendid 20-inch forged wheels with a "rolling" design, capable of extracting hot air from inside the wheel. Incredible. Its 830 hp twin-turbo V8 is the ultimate evolution of the F154 family, lightened, strengthened, and equipped with a turbocharger larger than ever before on a road-going Ferrari. Just like the SF90 it replaces, it still has three electric motors—two at the front and one at the rear, derived directly from F1—for an additional 220 hp. The overall output is a record-breaking 1,050 hp. Electric all-wheel drive and torque vectoring transform the 849 Testarossa into a highly usable and fast car through the corners, yet still capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds and easily exceeding a top speed of 330 km/h. At Fiorano, the chronometer stopped at a lap time of 1:17.500 (Spider: 1:18.100). And, between us, the Spider is truly stunning; it will undoubtedly be a collector's favorite!
