Conversations with Vasıf Yüceliş on the Turkish Armed Forces and the National Defense University (MSÜ): After candidates complete their medical checks at the National Defense University (MSÜ), their candidate evaluation scores (ADP) are released. These scores are calculated by combining certain percentages from the YKS (Higher Education Institutions Entrance Exam), the sports interview, and the oral interview, and are determined separately for each school. Based on their ADP rankings, candidates are first called to orientation training as full recruits, and then, if the quota is not filled, as reserve recruits, or for other necessary steps. While there are specific ranking requirements for officer rank (e.g., being within 300,000) in raw and placement scores, a TYT raw score threshold that changes annually applies to non-commissioned officers is applied. Candidates who fail to complete the medical check are not called. The orientation training required of candidates called to officer rank serves as a preliminary preparation for military life and is crucial for determining their adaptability to this system. It is recommended that candidates not immediately cancel their university registration during this period to avoid losing a year. For Air Force Academy candidates, student selection flights (ÖSU) are held prior to orientation training. These flights include written exams, aircraft knowledge, and practical training such as solo flight.
